SHE may be ready for Preschool, but I’m not….
Friday we plan to sign Kelsey up for preschool in September. Wasn’t she just born? How will she go without me, breathe without me, exist without me, ME, the womb from which she sprang into the world? The umbilical cord that used to link us is just a cute belly button, mocking my separation distress, delineating her separateness from me. And thus the letting go begins. First, it’s a few hours twice a week. Then it’s thrice a week. Soon, she’ll be gone from me all day long. And she won’t miss me. And my arms will ache with the loss of her hugs.
Oh, wait… I have another daughter! Silly me. I’ll be fine. ![]()
She’s old enough for preschool?
Reaching the age of 3 before August 31 qualifies you for preschool! Most preschool programs in this area are 2 or 3 days per week, for just a few hours. It’s not academic, more social, preparing children for the routine of school.
I can’t believe she’s almost 3.
(from Charlie and Margie)
If you think that seeing your first one go off to school is bad, wait until the youngest one goes to school.
Kelsey was born about two weeks ago, that is true. Now she is about to take her first Giant Step and go to preschool. Two weeks later she will be going away to a college somewhere and come hope at Christmas and Spring Break. They grow up so quickly; ask your mother.
Hemorrhoid will be going to school in two weeks after Kelsey starts and you will be left with nothing but Tommy with a huge grin.
The only redeeming thing is that you will always have Allen. It is our job to raise them to leave the nest, and leave it with confidence and poise. You will do a great job if you don’t kill them first.
Isn’t Love a beautiful thing?
